Do You Have Arm Weakness Following a Stroke?
This clinical trial offers extra arm rehab therapy to people who have arm weakness due to a stroke in the last 3-5 months.

WHY BE PART OF THIS TRIAL?

Receive extra therapy - at home!

Participants will be randomized to receive either [1] extra arm movement therapy using a telerehab system provided in your home, in addition to usual care; or [2] usual care alone. Those randomized to the usual care alone group will be offered the extra at-home therapy following completion of the study.

NO COST

Therapy you receive during participation is completely free. There is no charge to you or to your insurance company.

PAYMENT FOR STUDY PARTICIPATION

Participants who complete the study will also receive $150. Transportation can also be provided, if necessary.

ABOUT THE STUDY

  • Provides intensive arm therapy by playing fun games, at home!
  • Participants have had stroke in last 3-5 months
  • Participants have moderate to severe arm weakness

WHY IS THIS STUDY BEING DONE?

  • To develop new methods that provide higher doses of rehab post stroke
  • Increase access to high quality rehab after stroke
  • Telerehabilitation is fun and people are motivated to complete their daily rehab

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THIS STUDY?

  • Those who are age 18-80, with moderate to severe arm weakness
  • Had a stroke 3-5 months prior
  • Live in the vicinity of one of our many national participating centers

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IF I PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDY?

  • A computer-based system will be brought to your home for you to use for your 6-week rehab program
  • You will play games and do exercises for 70 minutes/day, 6 days/week
  • A licensed physical therapist or occupational therapist will join you online every other day
  • You will continue any medical and rehab visits you were planning outside of this study
  • There are a total of 4 live visits to the clinic, spread over 8 months
    • At one visit, you will receive an MRI scan of your brain
